Ohio business owner Brian Robinson of ZOE Investments recently voiced his official support for GOP gubernatorial candidate Jim Renacci in his bid to unseat incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine.
Robinson is one of 100 Ohio business owners who recently endorsed Renacci, Ohio Business Daily reported.
"We should not be living under a dictator’s rule who picks winners and losers. It is un-American," Robinson said. "Jim Renacci is one of us. He does not look down on us from an ivory tower. He is on the streets and in our businesses and has a qualified plan to correct years of bad leadership. Mike DeWine has fundamentally failed the business owners of Ohio."
Other entrepreneurs who have officially endorsed Renacci's campaign include Mario Innocenzi of Mario's Barber Shop, Martin Kerr of Kerr Legal, Bruce Sauer of eOhio Realty and Andrew Pappas of Cleaner Concepts.
“I am beyond humbled as I look over this list of business leaders," Renacci said in a press release. "It’s not Ohio’s politicians, it’s people like these that make Ohio run. As a business guy who has now spent four decades in the business world, I know what it takes to succeed and I know what it feels like when the government gets in your way. When I am elected governor, Ohio will see leadership that gets the engines of this state firing again.”
Renacci, 63, is an accountant and entrepreneur. He won election to U.S. Congress in 2010 as part of the Tea Party movement, and later endorsed Donald Trump over then-Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the 2016 primary for president.
DeWine, 75, was former Ohio Gov. John Kasich's choice to replace him in 2019, according to West Hamilton News. He is one of the longest-serving public officials in state history, having been in elected office for 41 years. That includes stints in the Ohio State Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and as Ohio attorney general and lieutenant governor.
DeWine will face off against Renacci in the May 3 GOP gubernatorial primary, according to Ballotpedia. The winner will go on to the Nov. 8 general election.
