Greater Toledo Right to Life has endorsed Republican Jim Renacci's campaign for governor of Ohio.

"We like Jim for his record and stances on protecting life and will do everything we can to help elect him governor," said Ed Sitter, the group's executive director.

Renacci thanked the organization for its endorsement.

"I take each of these endorsements very seriously, with gratitude and a commitment to uphold the conservative values that will make Ohio great again," he said in a statement. "Conservatives across Ohio are mobilizing to bring the right leadership to our state."

Last month, Renacci won the endorsement of Warren County Right to Life, according to the Buckeye Reporter. Renacci has a strong pro-life record and has previously stated that if elected, he will appoint an unborn child advocate. He noted that the advocate would be a "high priority position." When he served as a congressman, Renacci co-sponsored the federal Heartbeat Protection Act, which would have prohibited doctors from performing abortions after determining that the baby had a heartbeat. The legislation failed to advance beyond the House, the newspaper reported.

Right to Life (RTL) is an organization dedicated to defending the lives of the unborn through education and legislation, according to its website. There are more than 3,000 local RTL chapters, in addition to 50 statewide affiliates and the national federation.

Renacci is a businessman and former U.S. representative for the 16th congressional district running against incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine, a fellow Republican, in the 2022 GOP gubernatorial primary on May 3.
